David Archuleta Audition American Idol 7

In the summer of 2007, 16-year old David Archuleta from Murray, Utah auditioned for American Idol Season 7 in San Diego, California. Wearing audition number 11394, David said he recently suffered from partial vocal chord paralysis but that he had recovered. He sang  John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change", with judge Randy Jackson spontaneously joining in to sing the background "waiting" in the song. After singing, Randy commented that David has a really good voice and that he was impressed. Paula said David has a nice tone, mature for David's age; she thinks David is a sweetheart and talented. Simon agreed with the two and added that David has a great choice of song and he liked it. All the three judges voted yes to send David to Hollywood.

David Archuleta advanced to the Hollywood week after impressing the judges with his rendition of John Mayer's "Waiting for the World to Change." At his first audition during the Hollywood Week, David performed Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" on the piano, taking advantage of the decision to allow contestants to play musical instruments. Paula commented that it was awesome while Simon went all out and called it incredible. The performance, however, was not aired. During his second audition, David selected Bryan Adams' classic, "Heaven." Randy Jackson became a fan of David after this performance, commenting "That was the bomb! the best I've heard since we've been here for days." Paula said, "You're a gem. And for the whole world to see, I can't wait" while Simon declared, "You have so many going for you: you're young, you're good-looking, you're likable and you got a great voice!"
